The Ridgeway is an pre-historic road running from near Avebury in Wiltshire to Ivinghoe in Buckinghamshire. Much of it is still dirt track and is approximately 4 meters wide. It is 85 miles long end to end and can be walked comfortably in 5 days. Even if you're not into walking you'll find refreshing views and things to see along the Ridgeway.
The route has been used many times over the ages for commercial, feeding and miltiary purposes. The actual path was formalised after the turn of the century. But in essence the ridgeway is a series of paths intertwining in the same general direction.
Walking the ridgeway takes you through different types of countryside and there is a real sense of journeying when walking the route
